Bye September, Hello October (A note on mental health and subtle ASU dance plug)

September is finally coming to an end. Looking back, I feel like all my days since school started have been a blur. Already, it feels like we’ve entered this loop of waking up, going to class, and doing homework + extracurricular things. Stress is building up as midterms approach/start, and we’re probably feeling burnt out already. At least for me I am. However, in the midst of all this chaos, it’s still important to look after your mental health. If you need to talk to someone, reach out to a friend, a mentor, or even your professor. Use the resources here on campus if you’re seeking serious help. You can also start a new hobby by joining a club, go for a boba run, or treat yourself to some good food 🤗😋. Listening to music or doing physical activity can be a good stress reliever too! If you love animals like me, watch cute, wholesome, animal videos!

I think it’s crucial to discover what makes you happy. Have time for yourself. It’s unhealthy to live your life with no pauses. Being stressed all the time can impact not only your physical condition but also your attitude around people, so it can affect the people you interact with as well. Perhaps, it’s time to take a step back. Focus on yourself. Stop worrying about your friends, they’re not going to leave you just because you need time for yourself. If they do, that is not a supportive group of people and I suggest you rethink who your friends are.

On the bright side, October is coming up and that means it’s the beginning of prepping for Dance4Me! It’s even more exciting because it’s in person this year! For those of you who don’t know, Dance4Me is an annual charity ~friendly~ dance competition where clubs perform at the Blackman Auditorium (in Ell Hall). It will be on November 21st, the Sunday before the week of Thanksgiving break! If you’re interested in performing, you can get involved with the organizations on campus that will be participating this semester! Personally, I will be performing with ASU (Asian Student Union) Dance. ASU will be holding workshops throughout this month for anyone who wants to come to learn new dances. Absolutely no dance experience is needed. These workshops are just a time for you to have fun and maybe challenge yourself to move your body in ways you haven’t before. I’m super stoked for this semester’s set (totally not because I’m making choreo to one of the songs for it), so if what I said sparked even a tiny bit of curiosity in you, come out to the workshops! For more information, you can follow @nuasu.dance because that’s where you can find out the date, time, and location for each workshop 🙂 Hope to see you there!
