New York vs. Boston

New York or Boston? Since I am from the Big Apple, my contribution to this discussion will bound to have prejudice sprinkled in. This discourse pertaining to which is the better city is flooded with bias and favoritism by their respective residents. I guess it is inevitable when we take into account the proud and ignorant nature of New Yorkers and Bostonians. It is obvious that New Yorkers love their city if the majority of them are still Knicks fans.

In this fight between two titans, New York is often antagonized while Boston is portrayed as the underdog. Despite it being one of the biggest tourist attractions in the world, people still discredit New York. Critics complain about our rude natives, atrocious rent, and its absence of cleanliness. In my opinion, it is human nature to hate what’s popular.

However, staying as objective as possible, they do have some good points. We do have terrible living costs, traffic, and sanitation. On the other hand, Boston’s situation isn’t too much better. Roxbury isn’t that clean either and the harbor is just as polluted as the Hudson. However, Boston is definitely greener and has more wildlife. The fact that I saw a cute bunny on campus pretty much solidifies this. In New York, the wildlife consists of unbothered pigeons and rats that would snack on the cute bunny … sorry.

New York is more diverse; Boston is safer; New York has better food – fancy and cheap eats; Boston is richer in American history. New York objectively fits the city archetype better due to its attractions and urban infrastructure. However, in terms of which is the better place, there is no debate. The two cities, yet cemented as global landmarks, are too different to compare. I hate to give an ambiguous answer, but it’s true: one city excels in areas that the other lacks. The “better” city debate is too dependent on personal preference to give a definite answer.
