Keyboards

One thing people seem to take for granted is the instrumental tool that binds us towards our computers: keyboards. This object’s significance comes as a surprise for people as its main function is for us to type numbers and letters into our advanced electronics. However, it is much more than that. These 104 keys, plus or more depending on the model, has an immense impact upon the way we interact with the digital world. The texture, weight, and rhythm the keyboard produces has an impact towards the way we feel and perhaps the way we act. Thanks to the innovations of technology, this device is produced highly in quantity and cheaply for the everyday consumer who depends on it as our dependance towards computers grows even more.

However, the increase in quantity leads to lack of quality and care towards such devices. I realized this as I came across the custom mechanical keyboard hobby. I stumbled upon a few  YouTube videos depicting the assembly of such devices and was in awe of how many various intricate parts that came into play with the device which ranged from the exterior keycaps and board towards the type of switches, plate, stabilizers, and lube used to craft a device that meets a user’s expectations. Users may enjoy regular keyboards and that’s fine, but being meticulous with the products I used, I chose to build one and enjoyed the process as it was enjoyable to that of building legos.
