POV: You’re on Summer Break in Your Hometown

Today, I was yearning to go on a nice outdoor walk and take advantage of the glorious sunlight, but I was interrupted by an internal reminder that I have nowhere to go. My neighborhood is organized quite bizarrely as I happen to live in the last house on a street that’s on a downwards slope. Thus, if I wanted to go on a quick run, I’d have a steep, upward trek waiting for me outside my door. Is it too soon to say that I miss being able to walk around Centennial and pitching a hammock under the canopy of trees?

Nonetheless, I have to say that I enjoy the peace and quiet of my house. No more random people running up and down the halls at two in the morning or that ~lovely~ weed aroma from my neighbors or suitemates slamming the bathroom door at night. Though these are true marks of a standard freshman dorm experience, I’m glad to be done with them.

Another thing that I missed about being at home was my dog. He truly makes summer classes and doing homework so much better because I can just look at his fluffy face and most of my stress goes away. Funnily enough, my dog has developed a super dramatic sigh when no one has paid attention to him in a while. I wish we could trade places and all I’d have to worry about is when my next meal is or if a groundhog is entering my territory.

Speaking of summer classes, I hope everyone had a great first week and doesn’t already have their first exam coming up next week like I do. It’s been a little bit of a rough transition because there are so many distractions at home and beautiful sunny days where the last thing I want to do is stare at my laptop screen for hours. Slowly but surely, I’ll get the hang of it and I’m sure you will too if you relate!

Until next time! 🙂
