Humans of New York is a photoblog of street portraits and interviews conducted with people along the streets of New York. It was started in 2010 by Brandon Stanton. He posts several of them for free on social media platforms, prominently Facebook where I also follow. The stories he covers are deeply emotional, entertaining, and provide a sense of learning experience where you do not typically get. Some stories he mentions can either be small blurbs with regulars on the commute, some erratic or interesting comment he received, or a lengthy story that covers a deeply emotional story.
To some, Stanton’s interviews may seem to be just a professional photo along with a lengthy paragraph that they will not bother to read. But to me, they provide a story and message that can completely change my day. Whether it is something comedic, sad, or angering, these stories provide a sense of fulfillment for me to learn and possibly improve from. Words and messages from people throughout the world and throughout the times are invaluable compared to most materialistic objects we hold dear.
The only thing I wished that would change is that people had more conversations like these because sometimes the world rapidly changes at a pace where its too fast for people and conversations like these help.
