Clam Chowder!

This summer in July I had clam chowder for the first time. It was my first time in San Francisco, when I was taken to a small outdoor clam chowder spot on Fisherman’s Wharf. It was a cold summer day with the forecast estimating highs of 58 degrees Fahrenheit. After touring the Wharf, I was tired, cold, and hungry and clam chowder was the perfect thing to keep energized to keep exploring the hilly but windy city. The soup was served in a round loaf of sourdough bread. The soup was hot and quickly melted the flesh of the dough into chowder soaked crumbs. It was my first time having clam chowder but I was very impressed and I knew it was something I had to have more of in Boston, the city known for the classic New England Clam Chowder. In pursuit of my new found love for clam chowder, last week I went to a spot in the North End known for its clam chowder and other regional delicacies. The clam chowder I had here was better than the one I had in San Francisco, I am unsure if I think that because of a local bias but the clam chowder tasted much better. It was served with a side of crackers and cornbread. I learned that the trick is to crumble pieces of the cornbread to add a tinge of sweetness to the chowder. Overall, I enjoyed both experiences a lot and I hope to have more chowder in the future, so if you know a spot, please let me know!
