In only two days from now, the man in charge of the white house will be elected, either Donald Trump or Joe Biden, and I wanted to focus my blog post on an issue that is not talked about as much but is incredibly relevant and important. In previous presidential elections, there was a substantial portion of Americans, roughly 40-50 percent, sitting out. The 2016 election only saw 58% of eligible voters participating, and the two previous years were only a couple of percentage points higher in terms of voter turnout.

Luckily, everyone seems incredibly motivated to vote for this election and to convince their friends, family, and everyone who will listen to also go vote. I’m assuming everyone reading this has also been bombarded with ads on social media, websites, news shows all concerning the election and how important it is to vote in the presidential election. However, I wanted to take the time to also talk about the elections happening concurrently with this presidential election. I’m talking about the 35 senator seats up for grabs, and the entire House of Representatives who are also going to be chosen.

Consensus 2020 Senate Forecast

This is a map of the current senate races across the country, with a dark blue representing an almost guaranteed democratic senator, a dark red representing the opposite, and the varying shades each representing the likelihood of either a democrat or republican senator. If the Democrats are able to secure enough seats in this senate, and maintain their majority in the house, they will control the congress. This means that even if Trump wins again, he will have no power. This is a major battleground of politics that seems to be ignored and I wanted to bring it up to the forefront of the discussion. Please vote for the Congressional races as well as the presidential.
