Thinking About the Future

I would characterize myself as a present minded person. The way I see present mindedness is not focusing so much about the future and enjoying the moment that you are sharing with yourself or with others. Recently, I have been forced to analyze my future and make bigger life decisions. Finding a place off-campus for next year housing has truly thrown me into the world of adulting. Despite only apartment hunting for a week’s span, I felt overwhelmed not having that comfort of depending on my parents. I had to learn from the bottom up, take initiative, and act fast during the process. Signing this year-long lease got me to really think about my plan for spring 2022. I had known for a while that I would be studying abroad in South Korea that semester, but it didn’t hit me until last week when I vocalized this to my roommates for next year and mentioned that I would have to sublease my room for the second semester. It feels like just yesterday I was planning out this semester in South Korea as a freshman, dying for my third year to come faster. Now that it’s so close, I’m realizing how fast time goes by. Soon enough, I’ll be working on my application for Yonsei University and will hopefully get accepted along with my current roommate. The excitement that has come with thinking about this has been good for me. With COVID and the burn out I’ve been experiencing has more recently been mentally challenging to deal with. Although I always stood for present mindedness, making these life decisions and thinking about my future has done more good than bad.
