Things I liked to do growing up

Growing up I always had phases where I would get really invested in an activity and give up on it when I found a new hobby. Some of them include:

  1. Slime

There was a period of time I think in 6th to 7th grade where slime started to get really popular. I remember seeing a slime Instagram account on my explore page and I became mesmerized after scrolling through their page. I went out and bought a bunch of glue, borax, and shaving cream to try to recreate some of the slimes I saw. The slime I made never turned out the way I wanted to and I never had a good place to store the slime I made, so I eventually gave up on that hobby.

  1. Reading

Growing up, there would be phases where if I discovered a book or series that I really enjoyed I would not do anything else but read. But if I finished the series/book and couldn’t find another book, I would not read for months until another book came by. I distinctly remember that in 5th grade I discovered the Series of unfortunate events and I borrowed the entire collection from the library and in 6th grade I found the Harry Potter series. I finished both series in a week because I didn’t do anything but read during the time.

  1. Rainbow loom

Rainbow loom is also another random hobby that blew up when I was really young. I remember being in 5th grade and when I got my rainbow room kit I would sit in my room in silence for a few hours and make bracelets until I ran out of elastic bands. I slowly fell out of my hobby when I ran out of materials and my elementary school banned kids from bringing them in.

  • Thank you for the thoughtful post, Michelle! That’s so real that you didn’t have space for all the slime you made. I get sucked into slime Tik Toks so fast, they’re so fun to watch.

It makes me laugh that your elementary school banned kids from bringing their rainbow loom supplies. You and Yin Yan should make some intern rainbow loom bracelets 😀
