The Weakest Links

2020 was a wild ride and we just made it through our first month of 2021. A lot of events happened within this month, especially the first week of January. From the finalization and distribution of the Moderna and Pfizer covid vaccine to the inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris to the destruction of capitalistic billionaires on Wall Street. What I want to focus on in January, however, are the capital riots incited by the Trump cults.

I’m going to focus on the people who were at these riots, mainly the Vietnamese Americans who are notorious for supporting conservative values and Republican presidents. There were Viet Americans who would wear ao dai with the “Make America Great Again” logo on it. There was also a video of Vietnamese Americans holding a Hillary Clinton effigy with a rope around her neck. After watching this video, I was disappointed in my community.

My family would constantly blame me for going up north for college and get “radicalized” by liberals. They would constantly deny that Biden won the election. I was the only one in my entire extended family on my mom’s side to vote for Biden. The others voted for Trump, Jorgensen, Kanye, or didn’t vote at all. I was livid at them. Why has the Vietnamese community reached this point? Or better yet, why hasn’t the Democratic party done anything to support this community?

Vietnamese Americans, as well as many other Southeast Asian Americans, were placed under the American social stigma of model minority (which is a myth). While many other Asian American groups exceeded wealth and privilege, southeast Asians were in the dust. Most of the time, they would live in low-income neighborhoods and rely on social security for basic necessities. In addition, they believe that Democrats = communists, which has something to do with American’s involvement with the Vietnam war and their anti-Chinese rhetoric.

All of these reasons may need to be considered and I fear that if our government leaders are hesitant on combating these Vietnamese American rhetorics, generations of hatefulness and stubbornness will continue. Maybe one day their values will shift to a positive outlook, but as of now, I am left with a support group for Asian Americans who have Republican parents.

I’m impressed, I need to say. Really rarely do I encounter a weblog that’s each educative and entertaining, and let me let you know, you’ve hit the nail on the head. Your thought is outstanding; the difficulty is one thing that not enough individuals are talking intelligently about. I’m very glad that I stumbled throughout this in my search for one thing referring to this.
