Yesterday I had my first shift as a PCT at Beth Israel hospital in the intermediate cardiology unit. It was a little surprising because it sounded like they were a little unorganized and weren’t expecting me, but everyone I met there ended up being very nice. Honestly there wasn’t much to do there and they told me that the evening shift is usually pretty slow anyway. They said no one cares if I bring my laptop there to do my homework so I think that’s what I’ll end up doing. I did learn how to use their automated vital machine, about telemetry and ECGs, and also how to use their blood glucose machine. I was terrified that this job was going to be high stress but it doesn’t seem too terrible so far. Let’s see how the day shifts are before I start running my mouth though- hopefully its not much worse! Also on the upside, the hospital floor that I worked on was very clean. I work in a brand new building so the rooms are nice and big and modern.
