As the spring semester starts to pick up, it can get pretty stressful to adjust to the homework, tests, and projects. At that point, everyone wants spring break to come. However, as declared by the school, there is no spring break. We will all have to keep on studying. With all this in mind, it is more important than ever to find ways to keep up your mental and physical health. Although the COVID-19 restrictions limit what we can do, at least for me, there are so many things to look forward to. Here is a list of stuff you can do throughout the semester, depending on your living situation!
- Go to clubs: Clubs may not be meeting in person, but I recently joined the Tabletop RPG Club. Overall, I have had a great time in the virtual club meetings.
- Take a walk: Some days breathing in fresh air after taking classes remotely in your room can be so refreshing.
- Bake: I love baking, though with no kitchen in my dorm, I can’t do it when I want to take my mind off school. If you have a stand mixer and love coffee, I recommend trying out Claire Saffitz’s coffee coffee cake recipe.
- Video call friends and family: With everything being remote, human interaction can get a little lost. Remember to check up on those you care about.
- Study outside of your dorm/room: It can feel cramped in your room after staying in there for hours on end; studying in a new place can be invigorating. My favorite study place is in ISEC.
- Work out: Getting your blood pumping can be a great way to get your brain to release endorphins and relieve some stress.
- Explore Boston: There are a lot of great food places and scenic views all across Boston. Take some time off during the weekend and maybe even go with some friends!
- Grow some plants: A pop of life in your room can help you relax and give you some consistency in your life. With how hectic school is already, adding on COVID-19 does not help. Consistency can help with burn out. It doesn’t have to be growing plants but find something you enjoy doing every day.
Have fun! Everyone faces burn out in different ways, don’t push yourself down if you feel exhausted when everyone else seems fine. Do a jigsaw puzzle, throw yourself a party, go to bed on time. Life can be hectic, but remember, burnout is a serious thing. If you feel that you need a break, take one, even if it is short due to deadlines.
