Short Vacay With my Bestie from Home

Blog Post for 10/4 – Joy Yamagiwa

This weekend, my best friend visited me from our hometown in Amherst, Mass. When I saw her, I almost broke into tears because I missed her so much. We began our short vacation with a visit to the Boston Public garden. Even though I’ve lived on campus for two years, I’d never had the time to visit until now. The weather was perfect, with sunny skies and a light breeze. We walked around for about an hour, taking selfies every 5 minutes in front of the flower bushes and willow trees. During our walk, a loud eerie moaning sound made us stop in our tracks. A man was sitting under a bridge, wailing like he was giving birth. Even though I love Boston, moments like these make me miss Amherst, where crazy people aren’t lurking everywhere you go.
After we visited the park, we traveled to the Air B and B she had booked for us to stay at for the night. I’m currently writing this post from the cute little sofa at the Air B & B. Later tonight, we’re going to see the new Venom movie. We are both huge Marvel fans and excited for our first movie theater experience in Boston. I’m also excited about the unspeakable amount of snacks I’m smuggling into the theater (haha). The only annoying thing is how expensive Ubers are in Boston. We decided to take an Uber to the theater since we walked for about 3 hours today, but a round trip costs $50! Maybe I’m just very poor, but that pricing is crazyyyy.
For dinner, we’re ordering Korean food from Koreano;) She’s ordering bulgogi with rice and Tteok-bokki, and I’m getting bibimpap and japchae. I usually never eat Korean food because I’m not a fan of spicy food, but I love the combo of marinated meat and pickled vegetables. Tomorrow, we are visiting a museum and a Vietnamese coffee place called Phinnista. I highly recommend their drip coffee because it’s about three times stronger than regular American coffee. Even though I’m only with my best friend for a day and a half, I can already feel her presence revitalizing my spirit. School, work, clubs, and gym classes have been sucking out my soul for the past few weeks, and I am so lucky to have people in my life that can energize me just with their incredible presence. I hope I can make more amazing friends this semester at Northeastern.
