Ringing in the Lunar New Year!

First and foremost, Happy Lunar New Year! Though this will be the first time I am celebrating away from home, I am still excited to embrace the New Year. I hope those of you who do celebrate this wonderful holiday find time to eat some delectable food and receive virtual red pockets! I am especially fond of this holiday because my family always makes the most delicious dinner on New Year’s Eve. To kick off the New Year, I’ve decided to share some classic dishes and their cultural importance!

Dumplings

Dumplings (jiao zhi)

These savory bundles of joy are known for bringing luck to you and your family because they are shaped like ancient gold ingots!

Sweet Rice Balls

Sweet Rice Balls (tang yuan)

These adorable treats are purposely round to signify a whole circle of harmony and fusion in the family!

Long Noodles

Long Noodles (mian tao)

It is widely believed that the longer the noodles, the longer the longevity one can have!

Whole Fish

Whole Fish (yu)

The fish represents prosperity– leaving leftovers for the next day signals that the family will have prosperity spilling over and lasting throughout the New Year!

I hope everyone has a fantastic New Year! Gong Xi Fa Cai!!! 🙂
