One More Week Til Election Day!!

Well, here’s another post about the upcoming 2020 election. Fortunately, I have early voted in-person last week, but there are a few of my high school friends who have yet to go to the polls. With the recent supreme court nomination of Amy Coney Barrett, my anxiety and concerns for the rights of many Americans have grown strong.

Thankfully, 2020 will be the election of the youth and statistics have shown that young voter turnout has increased tremendously. This is the motivation that I yearned for in my generation. The rage and anger from the hypocrisy of our current senate in addition to the failures of our current presidential administration in their responses to the racial tensions and the global pandemic has motivated me to get others to vote.

One of my high school friends believes that their vote would not matter in a predominantly red Tennessee. They actively chose not to vote and believe that nothing will change. They also did not change or alter their voter registration since high school, so they did not care if they were registered to vote or not. The most dangerous thing to the democracy of society is apathy. I was once apathetic until I grew tired of my rights being stripped from me and from many others.

Just because your state was predominantly a certain party does not mean it can change. With the growing tensions and tiredness of the Gen Zs and Millennials, the young population yield so much power and swing the direction of not just the presidency, but the house and the senate, and even the supreme court. Texas and Florida, known to be a red-leaning swing state, are close in the polls due to young voters. The number of young voters who early voted in person can explain why. We should also not forget the mail-in ballots and the election day voters who have yet to be accounted for.

Do not give up any hope and do not grow complacent with what current polls say. As I said last week, VOTE! Do not let any of your rights be stripped by the representatives that do not represent you. Keep the momentum going.
