Officially a Sophomore?

For my fellow students of the Class of 2024, congratulations, we finished freshman year! It feels so strange to think that a whole year of college has passed by. The last couple of days with nice weather brought back memories from the energetic days of orientation in the fall. But I won’t get too nostalgic as I already expressed my reflections on the past year already in my last blog post.

Cheers to a slightly scattered, but bittersweet ending to one of the supposed “best years of my life”! There isn’t much use in dwelling in the past, so onwards we go! I’m super excited for my sophomore year, as I’m sure it’ll be filled with highs and lows, and chaotic, joyful moments. I’m really looking forward to living in an apartment with a ~kitchen~. I’ve come to develop an intense hatred of the dining hall cuisine (sorry, I know the chefs probably try their best!) but lately the food has been less than ideal to say the least. Though I’m not the most experienced chef myself, I am filled with pure serotonin at the thought of not having to spend about $15 on a single grilled chicken wing and brown rice (that’s approximately three bobas right there!).

Moreover, I’m also enthused about more in-person activities opening in the fall such as in-person clubs, sporting events, and potentially some Dialogues! The downsides are in-person classes and exams, which are going to be a nice bubble-popping reality check for future me to look forward to. Nonetheless, I hope that I can develop stronger relationships with my professors and fellow students with in-person classes.

Changes are happening every day in this fast-paced city and I’m all for it—but a part of me has become even more sentimental about small, fleeting things like the ephemeral beauty of the cherry blossoms on campus and the fact that I’ll be living in a different room next semester. But I view this as an opportunity to be even more grateful for the loving, supportive people who I’ve met along the way that I know I can count on to be strong pillars in the infrastructure of my life.
