Nina’s Thanksgiving Reflection

Thanksgiving in my family is not really celebrated as largely as Americans generally do. We never really have a bunch of family come over for dinner and we never go to any family member’s house. But, we do always have a nice family dinner with everyone in the house which I always enjoy. Usually my mom makes some really good honey-roasted ham or some roast beef, and then my brother and I usually make some sides like mashed potatoes or mac and cheese. Thanksgiving is usually just a regular dinner for my family, but with a little bit of spice added to it (not literal spice). We dress up a little bit, but nothing too fancy, just something other than pajamas. We decorate the table, again nothing too fancy, just a thanksgiving colored table cloth.

Although Thanksgiving is not really a big deal in my family, I still appreciate the fact that my family is all able to come together and have a nice meal. We all live on our own schedules and a lot of the time it’s hard for all of us to come together and have dinner, so I’m always grateful that we are able to come together on Thanksgiving. My favorite Thanksgiving memory was most definitely last Thanksgiving when I came home from Northeastern for the first time in a while. It was so nice to be with my family again and to be able to have a homemade meal. Coming home on Thanksgiving last year definitely made me appreciate my family so much more and it just made me realize how thankful I am to have such a wonderful family to come home to. I had the chance to tell stories about how my first semester of college was going so far and I got to hear how everyone’s lives were at home while I was away as we had our Thanksgiving dinner. Being able to catch up like this is just something I always enjoy because I just miss my family a lot while I’m away and I just like to hear how everyone’s doing and what’s new. I also got to catch up with some friends on Thanksgiving break last year and that also was super fun for me because I hadn’t seen most of them since August.

I’m so thankful for all of my friends and family, and all of the wonderful people at the AAC! I hope you all have a great and safe Thanksgiving break and are able to have some good food and quality time with your families!
