My Experience Getting My First Dose of the COVID19 Vaccine

As the COVID19 vaccines are becoming more available to the general public and as someone who is going to be working in the healthcare field this summer for my upcoming co-op, I decided to sign up to get my first dose of the vaccine. The entire process from registration to actually getting my vaccine was quite simple. I pre-registered using the form found on mass.gov and was able to complete it within 5 minutes. I got an email confirming that I am eligible to receive my vaccine after a week and later was able to schedule to receive my first dose a day later.

On the day that I received my vaccine, I arrived at my appointed vaccination center with my conformation email. I was asked a series of questions regard my most recent health such as if I am experiencing any symptoms, if I was tested positive for COVID19 within the last 14 days and if I had any interactions with some who was tested positive for COVID19 within the last 14 days. You would have to answer no to all of these questions in order to be let into the vaccination site. After that, I was placed in line to receive my vaccine. I waited around 10 minutes and then was directed to my station. Receiving the COVID19 vaccine was just like getting a shot for any other illness. It was quick and simple. The lady who administered the shot asked me for my ID and told me that I will be receiving the Pzifer vaccine. After my shot, she scheduled my appointment for my second dose. Keep in mind that depending on which vaccine you receive, the time between your initial dose and your second dose might vary. I was told to come back after 3 weeks.

I didn’t not experience any side effects beside some soreness on my arm for 2 days which I was really surprised by. Many of my other friends have experiences some headaches and sniffy nose after their first dose. However, these are not reasons why you should be avoiding getting your vaccine. If you are able to, make sure you get your vaccine as soon as possible in order to protect yourself and our community.
