My First College Party

Blog Post for the Week of November 1st

By: Joy Yamagiwa

On Saturday, I went to my first Halloween party at one of the E board member’s apartments from the Japanese Student Association. I dressed up as Storm from the X-men and went with my two friends, Ashley and Kanon. At the party, I met a lot of Japanese Americans from Boston college and Babson college, which was really nice. There were some heated arguments about whether Tokyo or Osaka deserved the title of “The Best City,” but it was all in good fun. The drinking games were pretty fun, too, although I was chugging water because I’m not a huge drinker.

Around midnight, a guy I had been interested in for a while came in dressed up as a video-game character. Then, I noticed a girl wearing a matching costume following close behind him and realized he was taken. I was stunned for a while, but then the DJ put on some throwback Japanese pop hits, and I forgot all about my heartbreak. The best part was watching a ripped E-board member dance around in a maid costume. Overall, I had a lot of fun, but I think I am more of a stay-in kind of girl. I’ll keep going to parties, though, because it’s a great way to make new friends!
