Sleepover with HighSchool Friend
Background
I have an amazing friend, Yebon, who has not been allowed to have a sleepover for her entire life. Earlier this year, her mother finally allowed her to have her first sleepover (she is 21, for your information). As soon as I heard the news, I invited her to my house for our first sleepover. I was overjoyed because she is one of my comfort people, and we had never gotten to experience hanging out at night because of her mother’s strict rules.
TikTok Dances
When she arrived, we started practicing the cute K-pop dance we had wanted to try out together for months. The first was Cupid, and the next was QueenCard; both went viral in the Spring. The Queen Card dance was so ridiculous that we both started cackling when we saw the video of me dancing like a broken tree branch. Later, we also invited my mother to join us for an easy Christmas-themed dance.
Omegle
Another high school activity we had not tried in a long time was talking to strangers on Omegle. After the expected horrific first few matches, we met a couple rocking their baby to sleep. They were huge anime fans, and we talked about demon slayer for a while, which was pretty fun! Next, we matched with a large group of 10-12-year-olds who were K-pop lovers like us. The kids asked us if we spoke other languages and squealed when we replied, “Yeah, Korean and Japanese!” Talking to kids again was nice because something about their youthful energy uplifted my mood.
Movie
We ended the night by watching Twilight, which used to be my favorite movie in middle school – don’t judge; we all have a phase we want to forget, haha! I had not watched it in so long, and the dialogue truly caught me off guard. Whenever Bella made a weird flirty face, or Edward looked constipated, Yebon and I burst out laughing. As I watched Yebon laughing next to me with her face glowing from the night light, I felt like my inner child was healing. School and work had been quite stressful, and it was nice to relive the simpler days.
