Growing Up

When you turn 18, you’re making the transition from being a child, to an adult. But we all know that you are not really an adult at 18. The same applies for 19. 19 is such a weird age; you’re still a teenager, but you don’t feel like one, but you also don’t classify yourself as an adult. You’ve crushed 16. Defeated 18. But are still so far from 21. It is that awkward “in the middle” age and your life could literally go anyway because no one really has expectations for you. In the world of privileges, turning 19 means nothing too. I’ve already received my license, my ability to vote, etc. All there is to do is wait another year until you reach the next milestone, turning 20.

I turn 19 in 2 weeks, and am no longer am a child, but still feel far from being an adult as well. I want to discover what life has for me ahead but at the same time I don’t want to grow up. When I was a child, I would yearn to be older, but now that I’m all grown up, I find myself longing for the carefree, blissful days of my childhood. Responsibilities are piling on and now, I need to think about my career, making important choices, student loans, taxes, and more that there is to come with being an adult (that you never really learned in school). Although college has just started, I have no idea what I want to do in my life, where I belong. In some way, it does stress me out, but at the end of the day we’re still young teenagers. There’s so much to look forward to in life, and lots of time to figure it out. I have never been the type to do much for birthdays, and will be attending classes on the special day, but I can’t wait to see what 19 has in store for me!
