Funko Pop

Everyone has something they enjoy so much that they become drunk with it. Whether it’d be something expensive as Supreme or “hype beast” attire to showcase their fashion sense, or something less physical such as video game skins to show their dedication and commitment to the game, some people are willing to spend more than the average person on something they truly desire. For me I recently started collecting funko pops.

I would not call myself a collector or an addict of any sorts, but I have come to enjoy them as decorations. I started off scrolling through Newbury Street in Boston with my friends to visit some of the restaurants that I wanted to try. Before doing so, some of them wanted to go on a shopping spree and we eventually wandered off to Newbury Comics. The store featured an abundance of vinyls, comics, and decorations relating to the genres. It was almost impossible to not notice the funko pop figures as there were probably hundreds stacked together in the first floor of the shop alone. I immediately eyed the Batman figure as it stood out of the norm in a black box with a glassy finish on the logo. At first glance I didn’t think too deep on how it would benefit me financially if I just purchased it as I wanted some kind of décor in my dorm room. But after displaying it in my room, I don’t regret it.

I was always a fan of Batman growing up, but I didn’t really have any sort of memorabilia of the character growing up as I lived in a strict household. But in college where I’m mostly living independent, I had a chance to chase after the little things I desired.

Again, I’m not too crazy with collecting as I only have two figures to display in my room. But as I read the community behind the figurines, I came in awe to discover people spending hundreds and thousands for a bunch of figures that they can stack up and take the entire room’s space. One debate that struck out to me was whether you should take out the figure out of the box or keep in on as a better display. That sounded deep to me.
