I did something really out of character this semester, which was sign up for the fan dance for VSA’s 2022 Culture Show!
Now, I really don’t dance (cue High School Musical 2’s “I Don’t Dance”). The last time I took a dance lesson was in elementary school, where I did a single year of ballet and tap, and two or three years of Irish Step. But everyone was so encouraging and there was so much emphasis on the fact that you do not need to have prior dance background to participate, and I was really looking to try new things this semester, so I went for it. There have been quite a few practices, and I’m having a lot of fun. I’ve always wanted to know how fan dancers opened their fans so quickly and powerfully with just a flick of their wrists, and I finally know how to do it. From the song choice to the people, practice is always a very welcoming environment, and I look forward to showing what we’ve been working on at the Culture Show (February 27 at Fenway Center)!
