Comparing the love interests in my current favorite show/ book series: The Summer I Turned Pretty.

If you are a fellow romance lover, avid reader, or Jenny Han fan like myself, you may have heard of the show and book series “The Summer I Turned Pretty.” It is about
a high school girl, Belly Conklin, and her love triangle with the Fisher brothers, her childhood friends. While the book series focuses on the central love triangle, the show includes
more plot lines, such as the growing relationship between Belly’s brother and her best friend, Taylor. It is the show of the summer, filled with heartbreak, summer love, teen drama, and heartwarming moments with family.
My Tradition
Last summer, I binged all of season one in a few days with my mother, and we had the best time ever! The new season just ar
rived on Prime Video several days ago, but I have been forcing myself not to watch it because I know it will be much more fun with my mom. So, I’ve decided to kill time by making a little list comparing the two main love interests. If you haven’t seen the show yet, here is your SPOILER ALERT!!!

The first love interest is Jeremiah Fisher, Belly’s best friend since childhood. He was beachy blonde hair with cute curls and m
esmerizing blue eyes. He’s a year older than Belly, popular, the life of the party, and the type of guy that would get along with anyone. Jeremiah is goofy, but he’s somehow always there for Belly when she needs him most.
The second love interest is Conrad Fisher, Jeremiah’s older brother, and Belly’s crush since she can remember. Back when they were little, he would teach her cool facts about science and help her with her math homework. But recently, his depression and mood issues have made him pull back from Belly. Still, a part of her heart always seems to long for him.
If I were Belly, I would choose Conrad ANY DAY OF THE WEEK, and here’s why.
1) Although he se
ems dark and mysterious now, the Conrad Belly knew as a child is still there. He is just dealing with anxiety about his mother’s cancer and the weight of his father’s expectations.
2) The infinity necklace: Conrad buys Belly an infinity necklace for her birthday. This is a huge symbol of how much he loves her because it connects to an old memory he has of teaching her what infinity means. It also shows that nothing would ever stop him from loving her.
3) Belly’s feelings:
No matter what anyone says, Belly has always loved Conrad more. Even though she dates Jeremiah for a short time in college, she still thinks about her feelings for Conrad.
4) Jeremiah has sex with a girl from Belly’s college the moment they go on a one-week break and doesn’t tell her until she finds out.
5) The only reason Conrad doesn’t confess his love for Belly is because he believes he is too damaged for her. He loves her so much that he is willing to ignore what he wants if it means she can be happy with Jeremiah.
6) Conrad is the kinder, hotter, more intelligent brother, in my humble opinion. Both brothers are attractive, but Jeremiah’s immature personality and partying habits lower his ranking.
