Chinese Bakery

Egg tart. Meat Floss Bun. Wife Cake. Mooncake. Roast Pork Buns. Pineapple Bun. Sesame Balls. And more buns.

It has been a tradition for me to get a bun/bao/bread every time I go to Chinatown. Being able to see a mom and pop store serving traditional and delicious buns at a lost cost hits me differently.

But, I have a hate/love relationship with Asian bakery. I love everything about it, from the taste of the buns to Asians yelling at each other. But, being lactose intolerant, I find that the trade-off can be hefty. But will that make me change? Probably not. If you love something so much, it’s hard to let go. Some would say that if you truly love it, you would let it go. But sometimes you rather be happy even if the thing makes you feel uncomfortable. It’s the only thing that keeps you waking up every day knowing that you will be happy even for a little bit before the uncomfortableness sets in.

What is the best bun/baked good to get? That is very subjective. The most common baked goods are probably the Roast Pork Buns, Egg tarts, Mooncake, or Pineapple Bun. I would agree that those baked goods are delicious but they aren’t my favorites. My favorites are the Meat Floss Buns, Taro buns (some bakeries may not have this), and Zongzi (not a baked good but can be found in some bakeries).

What’s y’all favorite baked goods at a Chinese bakery?
