A Panthepack Fan’s Journey

Today I want to discuss something very important that I haven’t had a chance to share. That is the co-ed music group called Panthepack, lead by GOT7’s Jackson Wang. Their symbol is the panda, hence the name Panthepack. I love this group, I adore everyone in this group, maybe some members more than others but that’s ok. I never previously paid attention to Jackson’s work for any GOT7 stuff so finding this came as a surprise. Yes I know very heretical, please don’t call me out online. So how did I find this group?

Well, Jackson released some singles like 一个人, yi1 ge ren2, which means alone. After listening to it I thought, “hmm maybe I should pay more attention to him.” Then this video appeared in my YouTube feed called DNA-Panthepack. I looked at the thumbnail of the video and first I thought it was just a Chinese variety show covering the BTS song DNA. Then I clicked on it. Let me tell you, my ears were blown away, Jackson just went all out with the first line “I got the vibes in my DNA”. I felt goosebumps, and a couple seconds later I realized one thing. I love this song. And as I bopped my head to the beat till the song’s end, I also realized that there were other singers in the song, but they weren’t on stage.

I recognized some of the voices, but it did not occur to me who the other singers were in this group till Panthepack released their second song, Transmit. Then I saw that the group consisted of J.Sheon, a Taiwanese American artist, Karencici, a Chinese American singer and ICE, a rapper from Sichuan, which is kind of the rap capitol of China. I am a big fan of J. Sheon, he is very edgy and his tone quality I believe is quite excellent. Karencici is just an amazing person, she likes to post funny things on social media. To be honest I still don’t know who ICE is, I know he raps but that’s about the extent of my knowledge. Don’t worry, I will figure it out eventually. Jackson is from Hong Kong, so I wonder if he purposely picked people from different regions.

Since April 2021, I have been constantly scouring the internet waiting to hear the latest song releases from this group. I find their lyrical style to be very proud and full of swagger. They have such a great collection of songs so far. My favorite top 3 songs from them are DNA, Buzz, Pull up. I also really appreciate how half the group has Asian American artists making waves in the global music scene, very inspirational.

Catch me later when I am nosediving into Panthepack merchandise. If you do become a fan that’s fantastic, if you’re not a fan give them a listen, I promise it’ll be worth it.
