Fear Street

I didn’t mean for my blog posts to be about horror for two weeks in a row (see last week’s entry, Campus Critters, for context), but I just recently watched the first two movies in The Fear Street Trilogy on Netflix (late to the game, I know—it’s a character trait of mine), and they were so scary I can’t bring myself to watch the third one.

Don’t worry, no spoilers here, read on!

I thought it would be more of a kid-friendly type of horror, like Goosebumps, for example. I guess it’s on me for not seeing the R rating on it before watching, but still. Within the first five minutes of the first movie I’d say I already screamed maybe three times. And the rest of it was all so gory and it only got more graphic as the movie went on.

Then again, I’m terrible with horror movies. I only watched because my sister and a bunch of my friends recommended it and I got curious, but I’d never be able to watch scary movies alone.

Regardless of my inability to watch horror movies, I’d still say they were really good and unexpected. I’m no movie expert, but I was on my toes the entire time not just because I was watchful of jump scares, but also because the plot was genuinely interesting. It’s really cool how they released the movies in reverse chronological order, so we know the present, the past, and the origin story in that order.

If you haven’t watched Fear Street yet, go watch it! And let me know if I actually am justified in calling it scary.
