Many of my friends look at me confused and baffled when I tell them that Halloween is my favorite holiday. Yes, I rank Halloween above Christmas and Thanksgiving. I know it’s a controversial statement, but Halloween has truly a special place in my childhood. Something about the fall and Halloween decorations bring out so much character in my neighborhood. My neighborhood is quite small and quiet. You rarely see people walking around. Halloween is one of the few times of the year when I get to see all of my neighbors and kids dressed in the cutest Halloween costumes. It’s the one holiday where you can knock on the door of people you don’t know and exchange ‘hellos’ or ‘trick-or-treats.’ Halloween to me extends deeper than eating candy and dressing up. It’s also about trusting those you don’t know too well and opening up to your neighbors.
