So, as someone who frequently starts shows/movies/dramas/animes and then abandons them because they are too cliche, I will give you all my best picks to watch during AAPI Heritage Month!
- xxxHOLIC – An anime about the challenges of a Japanese high school kid who has the ability to see yokais (supernatural entities and spirits in Japanese folklore). He manages to evade and befriend a few of them. This anime will teach you about some of Japan’s most renowned supernatural beings, as well as some of the superstitions and traditional clothing worn during particular occasions.
- The Sympathizer – A half-French, half-Vietnamese guy working as a Northern spy during the Vietnam War will be the subject of both a book and a film. You’ll discover more about how some people felt about their opponents despite the fact that they shouldn’t.
- Moana – It would be a fantastic way to commemorate AAPI by watching the first Disney film to include a Pacific Islander (particularly Polynesian). You’ll discover how Moana perceives her island when it starts to cause problems for the locals, as well as her quest to learn more about her ancestry.
- Fresh Off the Boat – A sitcom about an Asian-American family adjusting to their new home while attempting to adapt into Western society but failing miserably.
- The Guest – A young psychic/shaman, an unfaithful Priest, and a detective team together to confront a demon that has been polluting their house for years and has killed their families in this Korean thriller drama.
I hope you enjoy these during AAPI Heritage Month!
