Trying the Viral Tiktok Cheese Corndogs

Hello and welcome back to the blog! As you may or may not know, I am a huge foodie, and one of my favorite ways to spend time is trying new foods at places I’ve never been before, especially if they are local businesses. I am also an avid user of Tiktok, and my “for you” page has always been filled with videos of different unique foods and drinks. Many venues and establishments have been added to my list of places to go as a result, but they always seemed too far away to go to since I’m a broke college student with no car. Recently, I’ve noticed that Tiktok’s algorithm is spot on, and the videos they recommend have been local.

One such location is kimchipapi kitchen in Allston. Opening its doors for the first time 2 years ago in 2018, this spot is the perfect place for unique poke bowl flavors and Korean cuisine with a twist. I’ve always wanted to try this place but never really got a chance to during my freshman year of college. After corona, I really didn’t have time to go to Allston, never mind the fear of catching the disease from using the T. Now that I’m on campus and officially settled into classes, I officially decided to go.

A relatively new item on the menu is the corndog. On their menu, the Korean street corndog is described as “premium mozzarella cheese dipped in a homemade batter and coated with panko. fried until golden and gooey. topped with ketchup, mustard, and sugar.” Now, if that didn’t make your mouth water, I don’t know what will. They are priced around $5 a dog, which I think is pretty reasonable just on the basis of the amount of topping they place on it. When I first bit into the corndog, the first thing I could taste was the sweet exterior and I could also feel the satisfying crunch of getting through the outer shell.

THE CHEESE was definitely the best part. The sheer stretch of mozzarella was what I was craving and instantly, I knew I would be coming back to get more. I’m a big fan of all things cheese-related, so that first bite hit very differently. I would definitely recommend checking this place out if you’re ever in the area and craving something cheesy and sweet.
