Self-Care

I think an important part of self-care is eating regular meals. Eating well is vital to having the energy to get through a day, and being ‘hangry’ is real. I try to eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but I often end up skipping breakfast in the morning, which is something that I need to work on. Taking showers boosts my mood too. It just feels nice to be taking care of myself in that way. If I’ve got excess time and no work due soon, I’ll also try to catch a nap.

Sometimes I read in my free time, and recently I’ve liked reading nonfiction and exposé style stories. Over the summer, I read “Empire of Pain,” which was really absorbing in the way that it presented events. The time that I’ve spent reading is a good tie-in to my journalism class. I’ve been exploring the equipment that I have access to from the CAMD media center, and I like taking the time to be creative. Last weekend, I borrowed a GoPro, and this weekend I checked out a Canon T5i.

I also really enjoy watching sports. If there’s a hockey game on one night, I’ll look forward to watching my favorite team and use that time to destress after classes and studying.
