Rice or Noodle

There is a common question that people ask? Are you a cat or dog kinda person? While there is absolutely nothing wrong with that question, I think that this is kinda generic. Instead, what we should be asking is whether they are rice or noodle person.

For some people, this may be a fairly straight easy answer. But, if you were to examine it closely, we find that they are both very similar.

Both are so versatile. Whether we are talking about a short 30-minute dinner or a 5-hour slow cook, both offer options for the person to choose from. Even by themselves (or with very few ingredients), both taste phenomenal. There is sometimes nothing more comforting than eating a bowl of steamed white rice or simple soy sauce noodles.

Both are cheap. Nowadays, especially with inflation, we find ourselves with a lower purchasing power compared to before. But what we can always rely on when we are in desperate times? Rice and noodles (instant ramen). Mathematically, carbohydrates are the cheapest out of the three macros: carbs, fats, and protein. This is often why we see bodybuilders increase their carbs intake first during bulking season. But this doesn’t mean that rice and noodles are only enjoyed by the lower income. I guarantee that most of the richest people in the world still eat these simple carbohydrates frequently, if not daily.

Both can have their own unique twist and take based on the cuisines. Every country has its own way of cooking rice and/or noodle. So, in a way, it’s almost impossible to get sick of them.

But, despite these numerous similarities, the two are also quite contrasting. Rice is great and easy when paired with side dishes, compare to noodles. On the other hand, hot broth noodles are better for those windy and cold days when you need some warmth. But rice’s counterargument can be that rice tastes great by itself. Noodles, on the other hand, need some form of condiment or flavoring to make them more than edible. Noodles could attack that argument by saying that there is a greater variety of noodles compared to rice, making it more appealing to a vast number of people.

While the arguments could continue forever, the question that still remains at the end is which one is better? Is it rice or is it noodles? While I don’t have an answer, what I can say is that you can’t go wrong with either. The only thing that we can do is try every kind of noodle and rice dish there is. Only then could one make a final answer to that question.
