Raspberry Lime Rickey

What a weird feeling it has been to be in Boston and the weather isn’t a toasty 46 degrees out! My first week of summer classes has been quite interesting as it is definitely faster paced than I am used to. Though, I find it a lot easier to balance homework and finding time to hang out with friends! This past weekend, my friend and I visited Castle Island which is only two bus lines away from campus! I was surprised to find such a quaint town outside of the city and happy to escape into this picturesque park. I would certainly recommend visiting this area with friends for a fun day at the beach, as the sand is quite soft and the water is clear, or for a nice picnic as there was a ton of open space as well. Unfortunately for my friend and I, we were both overwhelmed with pollen allergies so a good portion of the day was spent sniffling and sneezing but we enjoyed our time in the beautiful weather nonetheless. There was a small restaurant at this park named Sullivan’s that was quite popular and we decided to get some snacks. One of their offerings was a drink called a Raspberry Lime Rickey and we were intrigued because it said it was a New England specialty. To save you all from suspense, it tasted like a raspberry sprite and was pretty underwhelming. Upon further research, I found that this drink originated from Washington D.C., so the menu lied! It’s certainly an interesting marketing tactic to label something as a specialty (and we did fall for it), but now I won’t live with the regret of not trying it. Hopefully I’ve spared you from falling for the same trick as I did now that you’ve read my tale! Happy summer, everyone!
