New iPhone Releases

I have been waiting for the new iPhones to release since this past May when I dropped my phone while riding my penny board. Well, I didn’t really drop it. I was trying to ride my penny board over this little bump on my driveway, with my phone in the pocket of my hoodie, and I got my penny board over the bump for the first time but I couldn’t balance myself and ended up falling forward. I think I had my hand in my pocket holding my phone as I was going down the little bump, and when I lost balance I tried to break my fall by putting my hands out before hitting my face on the road. When I put my hands out, I gripped onto my phone because I thought it was going to fly out my pocket, but instead I ended smashing it onto the road. I had a case on it (not a very good one) and a screen protector as well, but the impact on the road was just too much and it shattered. Well, at least it wasn’t my face. It’s really annoying because only the corner of the front of the screen shattered and everything was still visible and turned on just fine, but the touch screen aspect wasn’t working in certain places on the screen so I could never get past unlocking my phone. I was really disappointed in myself because I usually take care of expensive things and I know that I don’t have the most money in the world to be able to just be careless with my things. I didn’t want to buy a new phone yet, so I just decided to use my old iPhone 5 for a bit. It was tough because it was really slow and froze so often that it made it almost impossible to even call someone without having to restart it. Anyways, that’s why I’ve been really excited for the new iPhones to be released.

If you didn’t watch the Apple Event today, I’m here to break down the new iPhone releases. Apple will be releasing four different iPhones this year: iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max. Here’s a quick summary of each:

  • iPhone 12 – Starting at $799 for the 64GB capacity. This is a 6.4 inch iPhone that has OLED Super Retina XDR display, and great pixel density and even Dolby Vision HDR support. There’s a new ceramic shield protection layer on the screen which improves the screen’s durability by 4x! This iPhone uses the A14 Bionic chip. And of course, the camera is improved with a dual setup of an ultrawide camera and wide lens, along with a new Night Mode available. It comes in 5 colors: Black, White, (PRODUCT)RED, Green, and Blue.
  • iPhone 12 Mini – Starting at $699 for 64GB capacity. This is a 5.4 inch iPhone that has the same features as the iPhone 12, but just smaller and thinner.
  • iPhone 12 Pro – Starting at $999 for 128GB capacity. This is a 6.1 inch iPhone with ceramic shield on the front, and a textured matte glass black and stainless steel design on the back. This phone has Super Retina XDR Display and an all screen OLED display. There’s a Pro 12MP camera system with three lenses: Ultra Wide, Wide, and Telephoto cameras. Not sure what a lot of this means, but the picture capability is going to go crazy with this phone. It comes in 4 colors: Silver, Graphite, Gold, and Pacific Blue.
  • iPhone 12 Pro Max– Starting at $1099 for 128GB capacity. This is a 6.7 inch iPhone that has the same features as the iPhone 12 Pro, but bigger and with an even better camera. It has a sensor on the third telephoto camera with sensor shift image stabilization which is often used in regular cameras.

To be honest, I have no idea what a lot of this tech-y stuff means, but I am very excited about these new releases. The new design of the iPhones looks so sleek with the flat edges. I’m especially excited about the ceramic shield protection layer; hopefully it won’t shatter if I slam it on the ground trying to break my fall while penny boarding. Just kidding, there’s no way I’m riding a penny board with a $1000 phone in my pocket ever again, I’ve learned my lesson.
