Muna Tseng: Dancer, Innovator, Teacher

Muna Tseng is a Chinese American dancer and author born and raised in Hong Kong. Then she had moved the Canada where her passion for dancing started at the age of 13. Tseng had then graduated from the University of British Columbia, for Dance, Fine Arts, and Architecture, and later became the main dancer for her husband’s studio, the Theatre of the Open Eye. In addition to this, Tseng was a teacher at New York University and Rutgers University and had founded the Caumsett Summer Dance program at Queen’s College on topics of dance and performance.

Based on an interview with Bomb Magazine, Tseng stated that she had come to dance as her calling as it helped her find her path as a long immigrant teenager in Vancouver, Canada. Tseng has then created notable works ranging from “IT’S ALL TRUE: GRANDFATHER,” to “Stella.” In addition to this, she was awarded several honors such as the Bessie Award for Choreography/Creation, Citation for Best Choreography, and an abundance of other awards in the name of her work and skills. Many of Tseng’s work was influenced by her past experiences and her family which further added emotion and sincerity to her work.
