LGBTQA & APIDA Activist and Actor

This month for pride month, I want to write about George Takei. George Takei is best known for his role of Hikaru Sulu in the hit series Star Trek. He has taken part in many films following Star Trek. Apart from his role as an actor, Takei has also been working as an activist. In 2019, Takei published his autobiography They Called Us Enemy, recounting his time in the Japanese Internment camp during WWII. Takei also serves as a spokesperson for the Human Rights Campaign “coming out project”. Takei and his husband Brad Altman were the first same-sex couple to obtain a marriage license in West Hollywood. Takei has also stepped foot into politics. In 1972 he was an alternate delegate to the Democratic National Convention. In 1973, he ran for Los Angeles City Council, which he later withdrew from. George Takei has major influence in Asian American and LGBTQIA representation. I would definitely recommend reading his novel to know more about his experiences.
