The spring semester is coming to a close! With my final post for the semester, I would like to introduce Cafe Madeleine. Cafe Madeleine can be found near IV and is a very nice stroll during the spring. The location is rather small, which may be why their pastries are often limited as many are sold out early. I was lucky to find the pastry I was aiming for, the canelé. Canelés are a french pastry that has a crispy crust and a tender center. Unfortunately, after trying it for the first time, I would have to say it is a dessert that should not be eaten if not straight out of the oven as the center was not as tender as I expected. I also was able to get a lemon tart with a meringue topping. The lemon tart was surprising as I had made a lemon tart at home which tasted nearly identical, only the crust being more uniform than when I had made one. Thus, I personally did not enjoy the lemon tart as I do not like citrus desserts. Regardless of the fact that I did not enjoy the desserts I bought, I am definitely going to try out the other desserts in their selection as the prices are much more reasonable and affordable compared to the prices at Tatte bakery.
