Home Away From Home

Being away from home is challenging for any student. When I came to college, I thought I could be that strong girl who didn’t need her parents to support her and was so eager to go to college. But, oh boy, my freshman year was tough.

I had imposter syndrome, and every day felt like a battle to resist the urge to pack my bags and head back to New York. I hated my major at the time and felt completely out of place with the group I was hanging out with during my first year. I was counting down the days until every break so I could just go home. But I couldn’t sulk forever.

Sophomore year came around, and things started to change. I began to find my people, those who made me feel at home. It’s funny how a simple shift in the people you surround yourself with can make a world of difference.

One significant change was switching my major to something that truly made me happy. Sure, I’m still not entirely sure what I want to do in the future, but I’m taking one step at a time, and that’s perfectly okay. College is a time for exploration, right?

Now, I have people around me who genuinely care for me and my well-being. It’s incredible how having a support system can change your outlook on life. Boston is my home now, and I couldn’t be happier. It’s funny how life can take unexpected turns, and sometimes, you just need to give it time.
