Dorm Decor Difficulties

I came back to my dorm for the first time since last semester and I couldn’t help but notice how bland it looked. Even after all the Pinterest searches like “dorm room aesthetic ideas” and saving dozens of dorm transformation Tiktoks, my two cork boards are still empty, my walls still lack posters, and the only real pop of color is my pastel pink comforter. I always say I’d get around to decorating a little more but it never happens.

I will say, though, the pride and joy of my room is my desk. To be honest, to another person it probably looks just as bland as the rest of my room, but I adore all the little trinkets and decorations I have on it. The wooden board with “You are my sunshine” engraved on it was a gift from my mom; she always sang it to me when I was little. Beside it is a ceramic blue dolphin that my grandma gave me from her trip to Florida (Boston winters are horrible). I have a plush sushi keychain from my friend from when he visited New York, and a small clay ring holder with the pink flowers from Spirited Away hand-painted on by another friend. I also have a picture of me and my younger sister from when we were kids–I had no idea it existed, but on the day I moved out she hid it in my laptop and I bawled when I saw it.

So I like to think that my room does have a bit of personality in it, and it sure does hold a lot of personal value to me.

…But I really should decorate my cork boards some time.
