Discord

It’s crazy to me how some technological innovations are developed first but still come in late and staggering compared to similar products that come after it. Take Skype for instance, it was a marvel in the world of video communication and was ahead of the curve by nearly ten years. Then it all fell apart as they failed to quickly pick up their pace against other applications such as Zoom and Discord. It was truly a David and Goliath story. Eventually, Skype became the next myspace of its genre of applications and was left to the dust.

Discord is a crazy story too. It was meant for gamers only but its creative use of servers, emotes, roles, along with its high-speed streaming and video capabilities. Fast forward to nearly a decade and this streaming app is becoming such a success that big players like Microsoft even wanted to buy it for twelve billion. There’s a lesson to be learned here somewhere here about underdogs yada yada yada, but who knows there are crazy history behind most of the things we use today and there will continue to be as time progresses.
