Covid-Free Thrifting

I’ve recently fallen into the rabbit hole of endlessly scrolling through Depop. This online thrifting store is similar to Poshmark, Etsy and Ebay- except it’s been taken over by Gen Z. With Covid-19 cases spiking, we should continue doing our part in protecting ourselves and the people around us by limiting how often we go out. Depop is the way to go; it’s the hub for cute inexpensive clothes and accessories to luxury items marked down to a “reasonable” price; all of these can be either new or slightly used.

The app itself is super user friendly and there’s even a “My DNA” feature where you can select styles/brands/clothes you like and Depop’s algorithm will go through to show you what they’d think you’d buy. While scrolling through the different sales, you can either heart, comment, save, message the seller about the specific item, or add it to your cart. These features help to organize your potential purchases as well as improve the algorithm (and it reminds me of Instagram). These are some postings that are on my radar so far:

Yes, I love cows. But anyways, as you can see, there’s super cute and inexpensive items being sold on Depop- you just have to dig to find it (like an actual thrift store!). Some items have free shipping but most often you’ll see an offer to get free shipping if you buy a bundle. This means buying 2 or more items from the same shop (which can be annoying but also another opportunity to treat yourself to another purchase!).

A great feature of Depop is that the app holds their sellers accountable for shipping their orders- meaning the sellers must have their items shipped within 3-5 days after purchase. This is great because it’s been getting harder to trust online sellers nowadays to ensure you’re not getting scammed. Each seller gets a rating out of 5-stars and there’s a page where you can see real people and their real reviews of the items. Personally, I head straight to the reviews before buying anything online!

Recently, I purchased a couple things from Depop (#impulsivebuy) and I’m still awaiting their arrival (it’s been like 2 days but I’m impatient). Depop also includes a tracking number once the seller has shipped your package! Since I know you’re obviously wondering, here’s what I bought:

And that’s all from me folks! If you love to thrift like I do but want to stay safe from covid, online thrifting on Depop is the way to go. Happy shopping!

P.S. The BLM Appa sticker was only $2.75 and they donate ALL their profits to the various organizations listed on their website at www.studentssellingstickers.org or Instagram @studentssellingstickers.
