Amy Tan

Born in Oakland, California in 1952, Amy Tan is a Chinese American author. Before her career as a novelist, she was a language development specialist, director for a demonstration project, and freelance business writer. Her first novel, The Joy Luck Club, explored the relationship between Chinese mothers and their Chinese-American daughters. It instantly became a hit, with it spending over forty weeks on the New York Times Bestseller List and being adapted into a screenplay later on.

Her other novels include The Kitchen God’s Wife, The Hundred Secret Senses, The Bonesetter’s Daughter, Saving Fish from Drowning, and The Valley of Amazement (2013). She often touches upon the theme of cultural differences between parents and children as a result of being raised in different environments.
