Allow me to introduce myself. I’m Ashley Cao, currently in my second year of studying Mechanical Engineering. Houston, Texas is where I was born and raised. Recently, I came across a list of 774 new laws that took effect in Texas on September 1st (article link attached). A few that particularly caught my attention were the ban on diversity programs at public universities and the restriction on transgender youth accessing transitioning healthcare. If you’d like to discuss this article, the engineering department, or any other topic, feel free to reach out to me! This summer was filled with memorable moments, such as watching Oppenheimer with some dear friends, perfecting my caramelized pork ribs recipe, and spending quality time with my family. I applied to be an AAC Intern because I value the inclusive community and the support it provides, especially during the challenges of the academic year. https://www.khou.com/article/news/local/texas/new-texas-laws-september-2023/285-23f52a6b-9672-44ef-bfa8-f315e5fe2b49
