A Few Things I Miss About Pre-Covid Northeastern

Hello again everyone. If you are a freshman reading this, you have most likely been told countless times about how different things were last year. When I meet up with my ASU or CSA smalls, how things were last year is a pretty common conversational topic that always leaves us yearning for the past. So for today’s blog, I’m going to dive into specifics about my life that I miss since other people have probably already told you about the big picture things such as parties, hockey games and in-person club events.

Dance Practices for PAAC organizations

So starting off, I am definitely NOT a dancer, I know in my heart I lack coordination and flow in my movements. This is okay because it’s more about the vibes and friendships that are made. Dance practices for clubs were often filled with excitement, energy and everyone hyping each other up while learning the dances. Once a big showcase was coming up, the commotion could quite literally be felt in the air.

Dance Showcases

Performing and watching different dances with a bunch of my friends was a super great outlet from my day-to-day life. I remember how hard all the club organizations practiced to make sure the dances were to the best of their ability as well as how hard I cheered when seeing a bunch of my closest friends show off their talents.

Sitting at Boba places after a General Meeting or Club Event

While getting to know people at general meetings or clubs in person are definitely something I highly miss about pre-COVID Northeastern, the hangouts afterwards really solidified a lot of the friendships that I made. Popular places that were still open at night, after club meetings were Kung Fu Tea and the newly opened Vivi’s: we would often go in large groups and take up most of the building with both our size and loudness.

Staying really late at Curry with Friends

Although we are still able to go into Curry and study, one thing I miss was not having a limit on the amount of people able to sit at a table. Last year, we would often put the tables together in a long row calling it a “caterpillar” and sit as many people down as possible. Most of the time, I wasn’t really studying, but instead catching up with people in between their busy schedules.

Having Movie Nights at the AAC

Finally, when the Asian American Center building was still open for guests, I missed working inside and interacting with all the people who would come to either do homework or talk. It was fun to just get to know people and what interests they had outside of their major, as well as displaying movies or music videos for entertainment.
