My middle school art teacher would always tweak the abbreviation STEM: Science-Technology-Engineering-Math into STEAM: Science-Technology-Engineering-Art-Math. As someone whose life in academia revolves heavily around the sciences, I make it a personal goal to exercise my creativity. It definitely helps that I’ve generally loved creative hobbies since I was young.
Personally, some of my favorite hobbies involve crocheting, drawing, and painting. I’ve actually been drawing for 12 years, it’s probably my longest term hobby. I’ve taken an art class every semester so far, and I’ve enjoyed them- it’s a refreshing break between my other classes. I’m also currently crocheting a jewelry holder for my dorm and knitting a hat in my free time!
While I may not be able to actively keep up with all of my hobbies, I have so many that I’m typically able to find a creative outlet in one way or another! 🙂
