A big exam, a long and intimidating assignment, a quiz, and project drafts among all the hours of dance rehearsal. Just looking at my calendar and all the giant red blocks of classes and extracurriculars that all conflict and that I probably overcommitted to this week begins to stress me out– but at this point, it’s almost a little funny.
My big, scary exam falls in this tiny blank window between the block for an art event, and dance practice. It looks tiny, compared to all the other events.
So, I may have overcommitted so far this semester, but I’m committed to my overcommitment. Maybe it’s the fear of missing out for all these events. Maybe it’s challenging myself, or the never-ending need for me to prove my own ability to myself. Whichever it is, it might become a future problem, but that’s a problem for future me!
Meanwhile, my parents took me out for dim sum yesterday, due to the long weekend. It was the best food I’ve had in so long. Then, we stopped by one of my favorite Chinatown spots to get 乾炒牛河 (beef chow fun), and shrimp lo mein. My mom helped me pack them away into Tupperware into our dorm room’s mini fridge for my next two meals, and then after my parents left, I sat at my desk, stressing over text boxes in Adobe InDesign and Java ancestor trees.
The impending doom of the exam and deadlines is nonstop, but as I sit here writing this, eating microwaved-to-steaming-hot 乾炒牛河 with the best fried chili in oil I’ve ever had, time is slowing down a bit and everything seems a little more manageable. I’m thinking maybe I can even finish this one assignment I’ve been working on in the next hour!
Good food gives everyone superpowers. Things might be really stressful, but as long as I have some really good, comforting food, how bad can things really be?
