When it comes to feeling a sense of belonging within a community, I think it’s significantly shaped by the connections forged through shared interests and values. For instance, being part of my badminton team not only offers the joy of playing the sport but also cultivates a shared passion and purpose amongst my teammates. It’s not just about the game; it’s about the camaraderie that comes from pursuing a common goal. Similarly, as an AAC intern, this experience has highlighted the importance of shared backgrounds and connections. Working with peers who have similar cultural experiences has definitely created unique bonds that goes beyond professional collaboration. I think it was very important that we found common ground, understanding each other’s perspectives, and feeling a sense of unity rooted in our shared heritage.
Belonging, to me, is also about being seen and acknowledged within the community. Whether it’s receiving positive feedback for contributions or simply having my voice heard, these moments of recognition reinforce my sense of belonging. Additionally, the inclusive nature of the community, where diversity is celebrated, further enhances the feeling of being an integral part of something meaningful.
