Birthday Celebration
Blog Post for the week of 8/1-8/5
Background
My birthday is coming up in a few days (August first). I’ve always celebrated it with close friends or family members for most of my life. However, this year I will turn 20, alone in my dorm room in a city that does not yet feel like home. I might buy myself a cupcake from Star Market and blow out a candle or two.
Family Visit
Although I won’t be able to celebrate with my friends, my immediate family will come to visit me for two days. I am excited to show my sister that I have become a true Bostonian. I also can’t wait to hug my mom because I’m a bit touch deprived – haha. They will be staying in the open room at my apartment. I have a roommate, but she is the most asocial person I have ever met, so they might not get to meet her. Regardless, I’m sure they will love experiencing the college lifestyle and seeing how I live outside of home.
The Plan
I have planned a few fun things for us to do because I want to make the best of their time here. On the first day, we will go shopping in Newbury street, get smoothie bowls from Playa Bowl, have dinner at Spouts salad bar, and watch “Where the Crawdads Sing” at Fenway theater.
The next day will begin with a trip to the open market at Copley square. Then we will get lunch and head over to the Boston Public Library. Since Barnes and Nobles shut down, the library has become my new comfort place. Afterward, we will go kayaking in Allston and end the day by celebrating my birthday. I’m the most passionate gift-giver in my family, so I am not expecting anything from them, but a thoughtful letter would be nice.
Moving on…
Until then, I’ll be busy setting up their beds and getting as much school work done as possible so I can devote my time to them. If anyone you know has a summer birthday, send them a text when the date comes around! It’s easy to remember birthdays during the school year, but we should all try to send love to our summer-born friends too!
