Growth and Reflection

As I am nearing the end of college, I’ve been reflecting a lot about how much I’ve grown. I just made a list of things as they came to mind.

  • I became more extroverted by being on SASE Eboard. At first, I felt super fake because it felt like a responsibility to be the outgoing one and initiate conversation. But I ended up realizing, I love meeting new people.
  • I learned that most people hate to initiate anything. They always wait for someone else to message them or ask them to hang out. If you have someone you want to get close to, just reach out first. Don’t overthink too much and the worst they can say is no (unless you do it in a creepy way).
  • One important thing I’ve learned is identifying the people that I want to keep in my life. Not that the rest are bad people, but there are so many amazing people at NEU that I know that it’s impossible to become close to all of them.
    • If someone only talks to you to ask for favors, they’re not your friend.
  • I also learned that I shouldn’t feel responsible for other’s problems. I can offer to listen and give advice but it’s ultimately up to them to put in the effort to change. And if they don’t feel the need to, it’s not my problem.
  • I’m still learning to prioritize myself. It’s fine to be selfish sometimes and put yourself first as long as you’re not hurting other people. I don’t need to feel obligated to say yes to anything, to make compromises to avoid conflict, and to act like I’m fine when I’m not.
  • It’s never too late to try out new things.

I feel old for typing all this out.
