Kazoku
Blog Post for the Week of 11/22/21 – By Joy Yamagiwa
My Kazoku
This weekend, I hung out with my “Kazoku” from JSA(Japanese Student Association) a few times. “Kazoku” means family in Japanese. At the beginning of the semester, everyone who joined JSA was placed in a small Kazoku to spend time with outside of club meetings.
The Dinner Party
Last night, I went to Sandhya, the eldest member of my Kazoku’s house, for a traditional Japanese dinner party. We decided to make “nabe,” a light Japanese stew made of pork, beef, tofu, and various vegetables. I requested the “enokidake,” which are small mushrooms that have a crunchy/ chewy texture. Having a home-cooked meal with my family was the perfect way to destress before my exams.
Undoukai
Today, I will be going to another JSA event called “Undoukai,” meaning “field-day” in Japanese. I am particularly excited about this event because it is in collaborating with BU and Tufts. I can’t wait to make more Japanese friends!
